Planning and Processing & Den Moodboard

A big greeting from me to you on this fine Tuesday morning!  Did you enjoy some R&R this past weekend?  I know we definitely did.  After a looong week, sometimes you just need to sit on the couch and watch The Office for a few hours 🙂  While I didn’t get very far on the two projects I’m working on (and can’t wait to share with you – soon hopefully!), Jake and I made some major headway on syncing our reno plans for the house and general same-paged-ness.

I think as I was dreaming and scheming lovely things in my head for the future of our home, I had dropped little hints of plans to Jake by showing him pinsperations here and there.  To which he responded like the loving husband that he is, looks great!  And didn’t give it too much thought.  But, he is definitely a details-guy, and now as we are looking to start some projects, major discussion had to happen.  So it was really important to start translating my fly-high-in-the-sky ideas into numbers, diagrams, and facts.

All-in-all, it was still a productive weekend (even though I didn’t do laundry….).  We are well on our way to diving into some projects!  I think the first room we might tackle is the den, since I have the clearest picture of how I want it to look.

Here’s a quick reminder of the rooms current state.

Ultimately, this is going to be the laid-back, cozy yet elegant, TV viewing room.  It also has a sliding door to the deck so I’m thinking it can serve double duty as a small ‘mud room’ area as well.  The entire look I’m going for is inspired by this image:

I love the moodiness of the glossy panels, and am hoping the effect works equally well on our vertical, varying width paneling.  Also, I’m digging the rustic and worn leather arm chair for in between the windows and a dark colored sectional on the inside wall.  Also, you all know I love a good and bold stripe!  I’d like to do a couple smaller striped chairs flanking the tv and console.  And finally, I’m totally digging the shiny brass lamp and how it is grounded by the matte black shade.  So much inspiration in one photo!!

This is the layout I’m thinking in my head:

Den layoutYou can see in the diagram above what I was describing earlier: striped chairs flanking TV, leather chair between windows, and big comfy sectional.  I’d love to do some shoe storage and coat racks on the left wall by the patio door, because who ever has enough places to hid their shoes??  Overall I’m really excited about the vision for this room!  I created a little moodboard below to try and capture the pictures in my head.  Of course I can never get it quite perfect… but it’s the right direction 🙂

You can see I’d like to incorporate some blues, greens, and gold with the neutral tones.  It’s going to be fabulous!!!  How do you envision rooms in your head?  Do you ever base a room totally off of one inspiration picture?  I’m definitely guilty of that one 😉  Oh, and be honest… is my glossy gray paneling idea crazy???
